Enjoy the wildlife on your own doorstep

The free event will have plenty of fun activities for all the family to enjoy, including a wildlife treasure hunt, storytelling, a chance for children to learn bushcraft skills, bird flying, arts and crafts and much more.

Romena Huq, Engagement Officer at Forestry Commission Scotland, said: “We’re committed to making sure that families can spend as much time together outdoors and encourage people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to experience our wildlife, woodlands and greenspace. Local woodlands and greenspaces play a key role in helping community cohesion by providing a place of common interest for diverse groups and providing opportunities for people to come together.

“World Wildlife Day is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the great outdoors, so we are encouraging families to come down, get involved and enjoy the wildlife on your door step.”

Forestry Commission Scotland is providing the funding for the event through its Volunteer Community Champion programme, an initiative that provides training to minority groups to lead events in their local woodlands. World Wildlife day is organised and delivered by the Volunteer Community Champions and is aimed at encouraging young people around the world to rally together to address ongoing major threats to wildlife.

World Wildlife Day will run from 12 to 4pm at Greenbank Gardens, Clarkston, G76 8RB, where light refreshments will be provided.
