European boost for New Lanark Mill Hotel

NEW Lanark’s Mill Hotel has witnessed a surge in business, with coach loads of European travellers arriving by sea giving Lanarkshire hotels an unexpected boost.

New figures show that nearly 60 per cent of German and Dutch travellers sailing into the UK on the DFDS Seaways Amsterdam-Newcastle ferry bypassed England in favour of Scotland.

John Stirrat, of New Lanark Mill Hotel, said: “We’ve noticed an increase in the number of Dutch and German travellers staying here. The staff and I have enjoyed the visitors both in terms of numbers and growth in interest in the area.”
