Folkies Fidil head to Biggar

A BAND described as one of the hottest to ever emerge from Ireland is set to make a rare appearance in the UK – and a date in Biggar is included on the tour schedule.

Fidil are in the UK for two festivals – BLAS in the Highlands, and WemsFest on the south coast of England.

In between that they will play a few select dates in Scotland. In addition to a Glasgow gig, they have a performance lined up at Biggar Corn Exchange which is expected to sell-out.

The band is said to be the most dynamic trad group to emerge from the County Donegal tradition in recent years.

Critics reviewing them live say they are breathtakingly exciting and have praised the performance with comments ranging from “stunning” to “mind-blowing”.

Corn Exchange administrator Lesley Armstrong said: “I am really pleased that we have been able to bring Fidel to Biggar because they were really keen to come and play here.

“It’s a small, intimate venue and folk music has always had a big following in this area so I am sure that the tickets for the show will sell-out pretty quickly.

Fidel will play Biggar Corn Exchange on Sunday, September 16, at 7.30pm.
