Proposals to turn a former pub at 57 West Regent Street into a nightclub were refused by council officers.

That decision will now be reviewed by councillors on the Planning Local Review Committee next week.

The nightclub would be on the ground level of the building - the upper levels are vacant - with the existing closing time extended to 4am.

Council officials rejected the plans, saying that being open after midnight would impact on local residents.

The appeal rejects these criticisms, arguing that there is no residential accommodation in the building or neighbouring buildings.

It also states that other European cities, like Paris and Barcelona, offer a ‘robust city centre experience’ operating into the early hours, despite people living in the area.

A decision on the application will be made next week.
