Whyte's returns to Glasgow for one-night-only pop-up at new Southside venue
A chef and restaurateur from an acclaimed London restaurant are coming to Glasgow’s Southside for a special pop-up in November
A Glasgow southside venue will host a special one-night-only takeover from Whyte’s, the cult Hackney resturant run by chef Whyte Rushen and restaurateur Liv Akers. Southside venue Next Door on Thursday 5 November.
Whyte's closed after 15 months in 2025, but the team then embarked on a high-profile global and regional restaurant tour, taking in 35 cities across the globe. The closure was a decision by Whyte and Akers after the success, including a Michelin recommendation, of their bricks and mortar restaurant.
Posting about the restaurant closure in 2025, Whyte and Akers wrote: “After 15 months of Whyte’s Restaurant, we’re onto the next. We’re going on a little world tour aren’t we, hopping from city to city, hosting residencies in the maddest places.
“Whyte’s will temporarily relocate our operations to different locations, creating a series of pop ups across the world, allowing you guys to experience Whyte’s in different culture contexts with our take on each local cuisine. We’re partnering with the coolest locations and restaurants and fucking excited to go see what’s out there. Plus gassed that what started as a little lock down hustle is now allowing us to travel the world, mad. Locations dropping at the end of February, it’s gonna be fun.
“And with that, there’s only 7 more weeks of Whyte’s, Hackney. If you haven’t come down to see us yet, then nows your chance and we’ll be expecting all you regulars to come for your final few hooorahs with us. Any last menu requests?! It’s been a mad year, the support has been overwhelming and we cannot really believe what we’ve achieved, we’re fucking proud. “
Following the success of their Glasgow event last year - as part of the 2025 global tour - chef Whyte Rushen and restaurateur Livi Akers are set to return to Glasgow for a special one-night-only pop-up at Next Door, bringing their global culinary journey back to Scotland with a menu created exclusively for the occasion.

Over the past 18 months, Whyte’s has travelled across 35 cities, hosting events internationally and developing localised menus that reflect the ingredients, culinary traditions and character of each destination.
Rather than bringing the same menu from city to city, the team draws inspiration from the places they visit, creating unique dining experiences that celebrate local food culture through their own distinctive approach to cooking.
Now, the team returns to Glasgow for one evening, turning its attention to Scottish produce and flavours for a special collaboration with Next Door. The event will feature an exclusive à la carte menu alongside a selection of specially curated cocktails, offering guests a chance to experience Whyte’s interpretation of Scottish cuisine as part of its ongoing world tour.

The menu brings together some of Scotland’s most recognisable ingredients with unexpected combinations and contemporary techniques. Highlights include caramelised swede and haggis croquettes with whiskey peppercorn sauce; roasted Orkney scallop with white pudding, confit leek and parsnip; and grilled langoustines with house Lorne sausage and lentil butter curry.
The Glasgow event marks another chapter in Whyte’s international journey, with the team set to continue onwards to Dundee and Edinburgh following the pop-up.
Each stop offers an opportunity to explore a new culinary landscape, collaborate with local venues and put a distinctive spin on the flavours and ingredients that define each destination.
Next Door is the latest venue from Conor McGeady, who co-owns the award-winning Corner Shop in Glasgow’s west end. It opened on Pollokshaws Road this summer and serves small plates and cocktails as well as a good wine selection.
