Funding boost to help youngsters to tackle the country’s litter

Carlibat Nursery in Barrhead, Heathedene Nursery and Darnley Primary and VI Unit will all receive a cash boost.

With communities across the country continuing to face high litter levels, children and young people are being empowered to take action, learning more about waste and devising initiatives that will help tackle the litter problems on their own doorsteps.

Michelle Gillan, Education Development Officer, at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “Since its launch in 2013, the Wrigley Litter Less campaign has worked with almost 170 schools and nurseries Scotland-wide to engage young people and activate them to take action and help address our rising litter levels.

“It is fantastic to see such significant levels of enthusiasm and commitment from the participants.

“The campaign is clearly helping to create Scotland’s future environmental ambassadors.”

Litter Less funding is being distributed to a total of 34 early years, primary and additional support needs schools across 20 of Scotland’s local authority areas.

Each will receive £200 to support their local litter campaigns.

Keep Scotland Beautiful has been running the campaign for five years, and in that time 121 schools have participated.
