Gone with the wind

Enter the National Theatre of Scotland, taking on tour two productions originally performed at the Citizen’s theatre – both aimed squarely at a teenage audience.

Both The Monster in the Hall and Yellow Moon will be touring theatres, arts and community centres and school halls this month, with not one but three southside performance spaces on the bill.

The show opens where it all began — the Citz — on Saturday, followed by one afternoon and one evening performance at Barrhead high school (Monday) and another at Williamwood high school (Tuesday – unfortunately already sold out).

The 1pm play, Yellow Moon, follows a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde — two teenagers on the run and mixed up in murder.

The 7.30pm show, The Monster in the Hall, is a different beast — a bittersweet musical comedy about a teenage girl hiding from the prospect of family changes.

Each is performed with minimal props, no sets and a small ensemble cast — and the daytime performances are followed by a workshop programme for the young people in the audience.

The shows are aimed at ages 14+ — but previous (and popular) tours suggest that adult audiences may learn something too.
