Heston praises butcher with a flair for being chop of the pops

IT was a case of meat the celebrity when a top-class butcher got the chance to rub shoulders with one of the world’s most innovative chefs recently after scooping 10 awards.

Stewart Collins achieved amazing success at the 2012 Smithfield Awards and was congratulated by Heston Blumenthal.

S. Collins & Son – based in Muirhead – won 10 honours at the prestigious awards, organised by the Q Guild of Butchers.

The judging consisted of eight categories – within which products can win one of four awards – Diamond, Gold, Silver or Bronze.

S. Collins won six Golds, three Silvers and one Bronze award.

The awards ceremony took place on November 6 at Butchers Hall in London.
