Pimp your palace

A birthday's always a good excuse to celebrate, and decor's awash with red, white and blue, crests and coronets to mark the Queen's 90th.

Ardent monarchists, of course, may already have homes overflowing with memorabilia, but there’s plenty to choose from if a more subtle selection of regal touches is more your cup of tea (ooh - and lots of royal-themed teapots, mugs and tea party accessories, on that note!).

Whether you want to go down the classic and collectible route and snap up items that have been given the royal seal of approval from the Royal Collection Trust, or go for fun and kitsch with a quirky cushion, or even a regal gnome from the high street, there are countless ways to fly the flag at home this summer ...

As Buckingham Palace spruces up for the occasion, give your own walls the royal treatment with Crowns/Coronets Wallpaper, currently reduced to £17 from £20 a roll, Graham & Brown. If ever a paper was fit for a queen, it’s this - and the jewel in the crown is that you can customise this sophisticated monochrome design with ruby or sapphire sparkling self-adhesive gems, £7 a pack. The company also has two wall canvasses by Kelly Hoppen: The Coronation Wall Art, featuring a crown with a flag background, and the patriotic Union Rose Wall Art, both currently reduced to £5 from £15 each.

Wallpaper Direct has Albany London Life wallpaper, depicting the capital’s iconic landmarks, currently reduced to £22.40 from £28 a roll.

Make a grand entrance with a door mat proclaiming ‘Palace’ underneath a royal crest; the Hug Rug Home 25, £39.99, Modern Rugs.

Hold court with your own ‘throne’, by dressing a chair with Union Flag Lambswool Blanket, £150, and Coat Of Arms Amethyst Cushion, £85, both from the Royal Collection Trust.

Warm a pot with a bright yellow Buckingham Palace Georgian Tea Cosy, £15.95, and drink out of a Queen’s 90th Birthday Commemorative Mug, £25, decorated with a coat of arms and flowers - forget-me-nots that bloom in the real birthday month, and cornflowers which flower in June, the celebration month - both from the Royal Collection Trust range.

Or you could simply slouch on a Union Jack Piggy Bag, £79, Made.com.
