It’s all happening in the southside

IT’S a carnival atmosphere this week as the spectacle that is the Southside Festival returns to Queen’s Park.

The community event is in its sixth year, and promises as full a programme as last time — even if organisers can’t guarantee the sunny weather.

The fun kicks off with the ever-popular parade, which leaves from Pollok Social Club at 11am to make its way to the festival venue, Queen’s Park recreation ground.

There, you’ll find children’s activities, sports and live entertainment from the main stage, as well as a stage for emerging southside acts.

Art in the Park is on at the Glasshouse once again — as well as the Art Village, running at Shawlands shopping centre throughout May.

And music lovers may want to head down on Sunday, as Squeeze singer and guitarist Glenn Tilbrook headlines at 6.30pm.

Other acts gracing the festival stage include the southside’s own Howlin Radio, Pete MacLeod and The Skababs (Sat), and Nick Harper and Bombskare (Sun).

There are also ticketed shows throughout the fest, including James King and the Lonewolves on Friday and Nine Below Zero on Sunday (both Glasshouse).

With the Southside Film Festival and the Southside Fringe running alongside, there’s lots to see and do, over the weekend and beyond — if ever there was a time for a southside staycation, this would be it.

The Southside Festival is on May 18-19 with events running throughout the day. For more info, visit the Festival website.
