If their entry wins, the record- breaking five times British champions will travel to Bracknell, London at the start of July, aiming to bring the title home for a sixth time.

Players president George Thomson said: “We are all looking forward to it; we just can’t wait to get there.

“It is going to be quite a unique event performing up in Orkney and none of us have been there before.”

In addition to this, the Players have also announced two shows for early May in Kirkton Church Hall in an effort to raise funds to cover the costs associated with their performance at the Scottish finals, which exceed £5,000.

Those attending the shows will see Mary Tweedie and Joan Sim performing A Night Under Canvas by Lisa Hunt.

Directed by group president George, the piece follows two long-term friends, Val and Brenda, who are locked in a museum.

As they view the myriad of artwork on display they slowly begin to appreciate who they are and the close friendship they have built over the years.

Alongside this the Players will perform their entry for the Scottish Finals which this year is Trip of a Lifetime.

Performed by George, Elayne Deary and Gerry Burns, the play is a poignantly funny look at family life and the frustrations it brings, all brought to a head as recently-divorced Barry and his parents, Sheila and Norman, travel round the world on a family holiday.
