Lana Del Rey switches to SECC

That song was Video Games, an instant hit after going viral on YouTube — and let’s face it, over 20 millions views is nothing to scoff at.

The gamine singer brings that distinctively deep, soulful voice beyond her years to Glasgow this week for a gig at the SECC.

The large-scale show is a change of plan from an original billing of two nights at the southside’s O2 Academy.

The move to the conference centre was a result of huge demand — but fans needn’t fret, as anyone with tickets for the original nights can still attend the show.

As for those who haven’t heard of her, Del Rey’s sound has been likened to 50s and 60s Americana — the singer’s description of herself is a rather colourful “gansta Nancy Sinatra” drawing influences from wide and varied sources (Elvis, Eminem and Britney Spears, to name a few).

Lana’s star is shining particularly brightly this month, as some of her original material is showcased in Baz Luhrmann’s highly-anticipated version of The Great Gatsby, out next week.

And with four million album and five million singles sales — not to mention a Mulberry bag named in her honour — it seems that the New York-born singer is going nowhere but up in the near future.
