And they were among thousands of acts from across the globe competing in an online round where fans across the world voted for the band’s submitted song.

The votes were cast over a two and a half week period on the basis of one download, one vote.

We Were Kings achieved more than 700 votes and finished top in Scotland; at that stage, they were reported to be in the top five in the world in the voting stakes.

The band, which includes Lanarkians Martin Walker and Dougie Scott, are now into the global round where they will be up against bands from all over the world.
