Lanark Fire Station charity car wash 2014 Slideshow

IN Lanark in recent years it’s not just Whuppity Scoorie that’s become a traditional sign that spring has sprung.

Another, more recent, fixture to the town’s March events calendar is the sponsored car wash held at Lanark Fire Station on Cleghorn Road.

The firefighters at Lanark make an offer to local motorists to carry out a full spring clean of the bodywork and windcreens of their cars in exchange for a donation towards the Firefighters Charity.

This charity looks after not only retired and injured firefighters but their dependants too. There is no fixed fee for the car wash but motorists are asked to make a suitable donation.

This year’s spring car wash raised a grand total of £667 in donations from drivers.

A spokesman for the Fire Station said: “We thank all the motorists who came into the foyer of the fire station that Saturday to have their cars washed and make a contribution to a cause that is very dear to every firefighters’ hearts, knowing that, one day, they might have to call on the help of that particular charity.”

Plans are already being laid for the next car wash to be held at some yet-to-be-announced date later this year.
