Libraries prepare for book week

Several events will be held in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth to celebrate Book Week Scotland.

The nationwide week, which runs from November 25 to December 1, celebrates reading and the pleasure that can be gained from a good book.

Kilsyth Library hosts Scottish Sun features writer Matt Bendoris, who will discuss his debut novel ‘Killing with Confidence’ on Monday, November 25.

It explores the dark side of Glasgow’s media world and business community and was written entirely on the author’s Blackberry when travelling by train.

Acclaimed crime-writer Caro Ramsay will be at Cumbernauld Library on Tuesday, November 26.

Caro was born and raised in the Govan area of Glasgow, and subsequently trained as an osteopath and acupuncturist in London.

Although still practising, she still finds time to pen her works and the latest Blood of Crows knocked 50 Shades of Grey of the top of Scotland’s bestseller list. She will be discussing her work and love of crime fiction.

Walker and author Peter Wright OBE will take his audience on a journey from the Southern Uplands to Caithness, bringing to life his book ‘Ribbon of Wilderness on Thursday, November 28.

Discovering the Watershed of Scotland’. His trip took him through Palacerigg Country Park, Cumbernauld, Banknock and on to the Kilsyth Hills and the Campsies.

Heather McVey, chairwoman of CultureNL said: “We are delighted to be involved in Scottish Book Week and I’m sure these events will prove popular with local readers and allow them to share their love of books with these varied and fascinating authors”.
