Locals urged to help plant trees at park

THE look of a local beauty spot will be transformed via greenery – after a voluntary group scooped its own windfall in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Friends of Cumbernauld House Park have received a free tree planting pack in a drive to boost the number of native saplings in Scotland – and locals are being invited to attend a mammoth planting session in Cumbernauld Glen this Sunday (November 20) at 2pm.

The lottery scheme has been funding similar projects all across Scotland – and has gifted the Scottish Woodland Trust a generous donation to get the planting underway. FCHP were among the recipients of a planting package.

In Cumbernauld, the target is to plant 420 trees on the site. FCHP chairman Glyn Price said: “Tree planting is a fantastic and fun way for us to do something lasting in our local area. We’d like as many people from the community to come along and help.”

Rebecca Whitley from the Woodland Trust Scotland added: “Scotland is one of the least wooded countries in Europe, so we are delighted that Friends of Cumbernauld House Park are helping reverse this trend.” she said.
