No council ‘land-grab’ in Lanark
A CONTROVERSIAL bill going through the Scottish Parliament will NOT leave Lanark’s Common Good properties in danger of a sudden council ‘land-grab’.
Assurances have been given on this after citizens of another historic town, Portobello, learned they faced failure in a long and bitter legal battle with Edinburgh City Council to prevent a new school being constructed on land it was argued it wasn’t the council’s to build on.
Lanark has long and jealously guarded its own Common Good properties, totalling over thirty dotted about the area, perhaps the best known being Lanark Loch, the Racecourse and the Town Steeple.
