Opera goes local

Opera classic La Traviata is to be given a stylish update, and East Renfrewshire residents will be able to see it when it visits Eastwood Park theatre as part of a 50-date tour across Scotland, writes Calum Macnab.

Scottish Opera is producing Giuseppe Verdi’s classic tragedy alongside internationally renowned director Annilese Miskimmon who was recently appointed Artistic Director of Danish National Opera.

This fresh take on the twisted love story transports the action from it’s traditional nineteenth century Paris to a more contemporary 1950s setting. The extensive tour is part of Scottish Opera’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and unsurprisingly the company has high hopes for the upcoming production. With a strong cast mix of established stars from across the globe and promising, emerging Scottish talent, the ever-popular La Traviata looks set to be a great opening to mark the occasion.

On Thursday (September 20) and Saturday (September 22) La Traviata will hold centre stage at Eastwood Park Theatre from 7.30pm. To book, phone 577 4970.
