The new Paths For All route begins and ends at Newton House care home on North Greenlaw Way, as the charity aims to encourage walkers of all ages to take part in their health scheme.

Paths for All is a partnership of organisations committed to promoting walking for health and the development of multi-use path networks in Scotland.

Residents of the care home joined Paths For All walkers to complete the half-mile route. After their stroll, everybody headed back to Newton House for refreshments.

Care home manager Helen Hendrie said the scheme is a fantastic opportunity for their residents to get fit alongside members of the local community.

Helen said: “When we heard that Paths For All wanted to establish a route in Newton Mearns, we were delighted – it’s precisely the sort of project our community needs.

“We knew that some of our residents would relish the chance to get involved and pull on their walking shoes. It was a wonderful afternoon of gentle exercise and lively conversation – a tonic for everybody involved.

“We’re looking forward to taking part in many more walks in the future.”

The aim of Paths For All is to get people in Scotland walking regularly, both in their leisure time and during their working day, to promote better health.

The charity believes that by making an effort to take regular walks, people will notice a significant difference in their wellbeing.

For Thomas Horwood (Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coach), the walk was an excellent activity for a summer’s day.

He said: “Paths For All is a fantastic way to bring people together and stay healthy at the same time. Being healthy is the key to being happy and our residents love to get outside and take in the fresh air.

“And it’s even nicer to do so as part of a group. We’re looking forward to welcoming new members and so anyone interested in jouning should get in touch and join us on our next walk.”

The walking group takes place every Thursday at 11am and everyone is welcome.
