Oxjam is on the hunt for entertainers

MUSICAL entertainers are needed for an ambitious music festival which aims to raise money for a leading charity.

The first-ever Oxjam Cumbernauld music festival will take place this October, and organiser David Cooke is looking for bands, singers and dance acts to perform at the event.

The 21-year-old, from North Carbrain, had originally volunteered to work at the Oxjam Falkirk event but he decided to host the event to his hometown in a bid to raise money for Oxfam and bring the community together.

He said: “I was volunteering with the Oxjam festival in Falkirk and it was suggested to me I should do one in Cumbernauld.

“We have quite a few bands already but I am looking for more bands, singers and dance acts to perform at the event,”

David plans to host teaser gigs at several social clubs in the area before the main event at the Link Centre on Saturday, October 27 from 10am to 10pm.

He said: “The event will give local bands, singers and dance acts a chance to perform and the event itself will give people of all ages something to do.

“I hope it will bring the community together and help raise money for Oxfam.”

David hopes to raise £1,000 for the charity which hosts this event every October.

Since the first festival in 2006, Oxjam has raised more than £1.75 million in total for Oxfam’s work which is enough to buy 15,000 emergency shelters; 70,000 goats or 1,050 classrooms.

It is run by an army of volunteers who love their local music scene and organise events in their area.
