Photography legend Jimmy Muncie was a Carluke man!

FOR decades there was a man at Carluke’s annual Remembrance Sunday homage who just shouldn’t have been there.

In his latter years, when folk asked the town’s legendary freelance photographer Jimmy Muncie why, years after his retirement and then in a frail state of health, he insisted on taking the Gazette’s pictures at the Market Square war memorial on a usually freezing November Sunday, his reply was simple...and almost as chilling as the weather.

“Because MY name should be on that Memorial with the rest of the lads,” he said.
