Right royal party on the way in Lennoxtown

CROWNS at the ready – a community is preparing to mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a trip back to the 50s.

A party, to be held in Lennoxtown on Sunday, June 3, will start with a Big Lunch in Campsie Memorial Hall - villagers and friends are warmly invited to come along at 1pm.

Everyone is asked to bring their own picnic, while tea/coffee/juice and home baking will be provided free of charge.

The fun day is being organised jointly by Campsie Memorial Hall Trust, St Machan’s Church and Campsie Parish Church.

To re-create the atmosphere of 1952 a selection of film clips and 50s music will set the scene. Senior citizens will enjoy afternoon tea at 2.30pm and Rena Shirreffs will entertain folk with a local history talk illustrated by a slide show.

There will be lots to amuse the younger generation, including a bouncy castle, a fire engine, games and competitions.

Meanwhile,senior citizens form the village have beeninvited to a Jubilee Lunch in the Glazertbank Country House Hotel On June 7. Tickets for the free event will be available from Campsie Memeorial Hall on Tuesday (May 15) 11am noon.
