Skirling artist Douglas Davies has new exhibition in Edinburgh

YOU’D have thought that after almost four decades as one of our area’s most prominent professional artists, there’s little if anything Douglas Davies hasn’t seen or done.

You’d also think that, after literally hundreds of works being produced from his Skirling Gallery, he’d be taking a rather relaxed, blase attitude these days to starting a new painting.

You’d be wrong on both counts.

Despite having exhibited everywhere from Broughton to Brittany, next week sees a first for Douglas with his debut exhibition at the Edinburgh Festival.

Between Saturday, July 28 and Saturday, August 11, a truly international audience will able to view some of his latest works at the capital’s Dundas Street Gallery, the show being open between 10.30am and 5pm each day.

The inclusion of his showcase in what is the world’s biggest arts festival is recognition of a career which stretches back to the mid-1960s when Douglas, now 65 years old, began his studies at the Edinburgh School of Art,

In fact, it is fast approaching the fortieth annivesary of his first important exhibition, in Austria back in 1974.
