SNP top team tackle 5k in Carluke on the Run

Aileen, SNP MSP for Clydesdale, ran with newly-elected councillor Julia Marrs, Angela Crawley who was the MP for Lanark and Hamilton East and who is standing again for re-election next month, and Carluke SNP member Margaret-Ann Todd.

Aileen took part as a way to support the work of the Development Trust who organise the event and to help promote the 5k relay, designed to help encourage people of all abilities to get active.

“I was very happy to take part in Carluke On The Run alongside fantastic teammates," she said.

"This is my first race and I am certainly looking forward to doing more in the future.

"Inactivity is costly to our NHS and also to people's wellbeing so I am delighted to help promote this race which encouraged people of all abilities to take part.

"I was also pleased to organise a meeting with NHS Lanarkshire to help develop links and promote this local event to help people take up walking or jogging as a positive way to promote good health.

“My warm thanks to the Carluke Development Trust for all the hard work they have put in making this year’s event another success for Carluke!”

And Julia Marrs stressed the charity aspect of the event: "I was really pleased to take part in such a well-run, fun and friendly event and to help raise money for Beatson Cancer Charity - a cause that has helped so many families, making the worst time a little more bearable.

"I won't be ditching the running shoes yet and hope to fit in another local run soon!' she said.

Angela Crawley added: “The Beatson Cancer Charity provide an invaluable support and care to patients and family, so I was more than happy to do my bit to help raise money this worthy cause.

" I am delighted that so far we have raised well over £300 on our 'just giving' page. My thanks to all the organisers of this terrific event, in particular to the Carluke Development Trust for all their efforts.”
