Soprano Lawrie Baxter organises charity concert in Lanark

Clydesdale soprano Lawrie Baxter makes her return to the stage in Lanark – with a special fundraiser for an illness rarely talked about.

Lawrie (29) will be joined at the St Nicholas Church Hall concert by guest stars Margaret Woods and Lauren Weir in a fundraiser in aid of Lupus UK and the Strathclyde Lupus Group.

The illness affects 50,000 people in the UK and often harms the heart, joints, skin, lungs, blood vessels, liver, kidneys, and nervous system.

The course of the illness is unpredictable, with periods of illness, called flares, alternating with remissions, and it often takes a long time to diagnose.

Lupus occurs more often in women than in men and Lawrie is only just getting to grips with the illness after a nightmare couple of years.
