Stories to rant and rave about

Part gig, part theatre, part casual chinwag, it’s a show by Kieran, Gav Prentice, Julie Taudevin and Drew Wright (of Wounded Knee fame), in association with The Arches and National Theatre of Scotland.

Some of you may already have seen it at the venue’s Behaviour festival last year — for those who haven’t, it’s time to take a spot on the couch.

This is a cosy living room gathering, a time for storytelling...and there are a few tall tales to tell.

There’s the retired American who steps off a plane at Prestwick, hoping to discover the rolling hills and heathered land of his forefathers.

There’s the beleagured Edinburgh politician running a hot bath, and the old drunk having mystical visions on a Peterhead harbour.

Then there’s the supermarket girl in Port Glasgow who’s heading to work with a baseball bat in hand...

Described as a haphazard take on Scottish folk tradition, it’s an attempt to take all those stories told around the room and fit them together to make a nation; namely, the one we call home.

Rantin’ is touring, and those who don’t make it to The Arches on January 24 and 25 (7.30pm) can catch it on home turf when it comes to Carmichael Hall, Giffnock, on January 31.
