Lorna Moon, born in 1886 as Nora Helen Wilson Low, hailed from Strichen in Aberdeenshire and certainly had a colourful life.

She greatly annoyed the people of her home town with her fictional writing, as the townsfolk recognised distinctly thinly-vieled and unflattering portrayals of themselves in the characters. So great was the outcry that the local library banned her book.

Moon had to make do instead with leaving her old life behind and carving a new career as the top-earning female screenwriter in Hollywood.

Now Doorways in Drumorty, currently touring Scotland’s theatres, is due to come to Cumbernauld on Saturday, September 24.

The title refers to a collection of short stories also by Moon, as the play is a loose adaptation which also contains elements of her novel Dark Star and an original plotline about the decision to ban her writing from the local library.
