Their Say

By Jim Logue, convener of learning and leisure, North Lanarkshire Council

IN THE past five years, we have delivered state-of-the-art 3G pitches in line with sportscotland’s high standards at Abronhill, Ravenswood, Kilsyth, Croy and most recently in Broadwood, at a cost of around £3million.

Furthermore, sportscotland, and all the governing bodies want local authorities to the develop sports ‘‘hubs” and North Lanarkshire Council is ahead of every other authority in Scotland, with the new one at St Maurice’s Academy a fine example of this.

We aren’t complacent and realise that more needs to be done.

And that’s why we carried out a recent assessment of all our sports pitches to help identify demand and in order to robustly assess surpluses and deficiencies in supply.

Blane Dodds, chief executive of North Lanarkshire Council has contacted Judy Murray and the chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association and that a meeting is pending.
