John, who comes from Forth but now lives in Hamilton, will be joined on the Corn Exchange stage by Raymond Mearns and headline act Junior Simpson for the Friday night fun.

Former Scottish Comedian of the Year John said: “There’s something on every night of the festival. For a town the size of Biggar to put on a festival like this is superb.

“It’s now got a really good reputation; I’ve worked with both guys in the past and anyone who comes to the show is in for a great night.

“This year has been really good for me. I’ve stuck to doing a lot more gigs in Scotland; it’s good to be home a lot more.

“I was getting bored of spending my life on National Express buses.

“Last year I spent 14 hours on a bus to Cardiff – that was an experience!”

A regular on the Glasgow circuit, Raymond is described as “a genuine improv genius” while Junior has been a firm favourite with audiences for years with his everyday anecdotes.

Having worked with Raymond and Junior in the past, John knows that the audience are in for a treat on Friday night – although he advises against heckling Raymond, who is famed for his putdowns!

“Raymond is one of my comedy heroes,” said John.

“There is nothing that the man can’t do; he really is a tour de force when he gets on stage.

“ I wouldn’t even attempt to heckle him because he is very quick witted and will have you squirming in your seat.

“Junior has been on the circuit for years and some of his stuff is just incredible.

“Both of them are headline acts and it’s a cracking bill for everyone in Biggar.”

The BLF comedy night featuring John Gavin, Raymond Mearns and Junior Simpson takes place this Friday, October 24, at Biggar Corn Exchange starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £12, are available from the BLF Box Office in the Gillespie Centre or by logging onto the Biggar Little Festival website.
