Volunteers collected skipload of rubbish at Kilsyth’s Bogside Park

THE main picture here shows some of the volunteers who converged on Kilsyth’s Bogside Park and filled a skipload of rubbish recently. And this weekend they’re hoping to see more locals lend a hand.

The clean-up, organised by the Friends of Bogside Park, will this time concentrate on other parts of the park and the community group are again calling on as many people as possible to give them support.

Keila Singh, one of the volunteers organising the spruce-up, said: “We will be meeting up in Bogside Road at 10am on Saturday (October 8), and hope to clear out as much as possible.

“We hope to hold these clean-ups on a regular basis if we get the support to do that.”

Anyone who wants to help out can just turn up at Bogside Road at the appointed time, and gloves and litter pickers can be provided. Please note that any children must have adult supervision.

The Friends of Bogside Park are also taking in the money raised from a sponsored walk from the Falkirk Wheel to Kirkintilloch, carried out by Jamie Naylor, Fulton Seymour and Barry Brown.

Purely to make the challenge tougher, the lads carried a weight of more than 20 kilos in their backpacks. It is estimated that this raised well over £100.

Friends treasurer Claire Caldwell and chairwoman Liz Patterson supported the walkers and even persuaded a pipe band to play them in on arrival!
