What’s on in Clydesdale this weekend?

The timetable for the Wallace Weekend gets underway at 10am on Saturday, as the Scottish Food and Craft Fair opens at New Lanark. The village is also hosting Corra Linn Art Group’s annual exhibition.

At Lanark’s Tolbooth there’s an exhibition of schools’ Wallace Wanted posters and other Braveheart-related fun, like a chance to have a ‘selfie’ with the Braveheart and wife Marion.

Saturday sees Castlebank Park hold its own ‘mini-festival’, mainly for youngsters, with storytelling in it’s recently-created Fairy Dell, a scavanger hunt and other attractions all afternoon.

The Memorial Hall is home to an Arts and Crafts Fair with many stalls, exhibitions and performances from 11am to 3pm.

There will be displays and performances by Lanark groups, including the Panto Club, the Celia Orr Dancers, Lanark and Carluke Choral Union, ICE theatre group and Lanark Scottish Country Dance Society.

On Saturday night Music in Lanark’s part in the party swings into action at the Memorial Hall with spirited modern Scottish folk/rock from The Bag Rockers, backed by fellow jock-rockers Reely Jiggered.

Elsewhere in Lanark on Saturday, Greyfriars Church is hosting a champagne afternoon tea in the church hall from 2pm to 4pm while down in New Lanark a Ranger guided walk is being held to the Falls of Clyde peregrine watch site from 1pm.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Biggar Horticultural Society’s annual plant sale and coffee morning is being held in the Gillespie Centre from 10am to 11.30am; the various venues in Forth will be packed for the Gentle Giant Festival throughout the afternoon and Law Bowling Club will have vocalist Dean Alexander in the club in the evening.

On Sunday, the Lanimer Highland Dancing Championships begin at Lanark Grammar School from 9am while Scotland’s Garden Scheme continues in Nemphlar from 1.30pm to 5pm.

And in the evening, Lanark’s St Nicholas Church is the venue for a joint Songs of Praise evening from 6.30pm.
