Young Traditional Musician of the Year comes to Coulter

It’s that time of year again as the best of Scotland’s young traditional musicians gather in Coulter to show off their skills.

The 12 semi-finalists have been announced for the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2012 Award.

The semi-final concert will be held on Saturday, October 1, in Coulter Hall.

Each musician has to play for 10 minutes and has to show off their technical skills as well as presentation skills.

From this concert, six musicians will be selected to go through to the final in January at the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow in February next year.

Organiser Simon Thoumire said: “During the weekend we try to help the young musicians understand the business and this year Stuart Cassells of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers is coming to talk about life in the fast lane.”
