20,000 objections to Dovesdale Incinerator

MORE than 20,000 objection letters have been presented to South Lanarkshire Council as protesters continue their campaign to stop a proposed waste incinerator.

Members of Dovesdale Action Group continued to deliver letters to the council's planning department on Friday, right up to the

official deadline, as people made their feelings known about the development in greenbelt land near Blackwood.

Over 18,000 letters were handed to SLC's Montrose House in the morning, with many more arriving during the day.

Action Group leader Paul McGillivray said: "That so many people have put pen to paper to object to this incinerator being forced in to our community says everything."

The fight to stop the incinerator being built has cross party support in the Scottish Parliament with Clydesdale MSP Karen Gillon and Lib Dem list MSP Jim Hume already citing their objections.

And this week, South of Scotland MSP Aileen Campbell became the third MSP to officially object to the plans.
