A boost for home-grown filmmakers

Craig directs, produces and stars in Glory Hunter alongside Elanor Miller.

Actor Craig MacLachlan, from Queen’s Park, has stepped  behind the camera for the first time this year to produce and direct Glory Hunter, written by his partner at Insomnia Productions, Duncan  Airlie James (and starring both).

It’s the first of many projects for the UK Theatre School graduate — and a Film Premier Networking Night at the Alea Casino this week aims to showcase what his fellow Glaswegians have to offer.

Craig (29) told The Extra: “It will be good to have so many creative industry people in the room at once. Glasgow is crying out for a creative hub. There’s so much made in Scotland but it’s often big name companies — I’m taking upon myself to put us on the map, and showcase the talent already here.”

The southsider describes Glory Hunter as a “sexy, glamorous piece”, following a kickboxer on his way to a title fight, goldigging girlfriend in tow.

But there’s something for everyone at the premier night, with three other films on the bill.

Next up for Craig is a TV pilot about vampires alongside Glory Hunter actress Elanor Miller — set for filming across Glasgow and even Eaglesham.

Craig added: “It’s called Dark Haven and it’s set in a mystical Scotland, so we’re filming in Glasgow and Loch Lomond — we wanted to get the countryside into it, and make it different from the usual Hollywood glamour.”

The networking night is on at the Alea (Springfield Quay) on Wednesday, 7pm — entry £5.
