A bumper birthday afternoon tea for Jean

Southsider Jean Hornal has toasted her 90th birthday among friends at Contact the Elderly.

Mrs Hornal has lived in the southside throughout her life. After a stint as a land girl during World War Two — for which she was awarded a service medal — she worked her way up in retail to become an area personnel officer, covering five branches of a large Glasgow company. The grandmother-of-two and great-grandmother of one (as of this year) attends day services with Contact the Elderly, a charity set up to bring elderly people together for afternoon tea — and Jean’s birthday was a bumper edition, complete with cake, flowers and the gift of an antique cup and saucer.
