A short cut to helping others

Seven-year-old Anjali Kalsi, from Milton of Campsie, had never had a haircut until she decided to donate her hair to make a wig for a child who is undergoing cancer treatment.

She has also been raising money at the same time for the Freedom Network in India, because her family sponsor a child through the charity.

Anjali, who attends Sunrise Christian School in Robroyston, said: “I have a pen pal called Pheba in India with Free A Dalit child. She is like my big sister .

“I like going to school and this charity helps to send poor children to school.

“I really want to help them and make them happier and so they can play and have a good life.”

Mum, Liz, was not keen on the idea at first but when Anjali told her why she wanted to get her hair cut, she was delighted.

“I didn’t want her to cut her hair at all but when she said it’s for charity I thought I couldn’t say no.

“She’s seven now and she’s old enough to know what she wants to do.

“When she did it, I just felt really proud of her.

“It taught me to let go a bit and realise that she knows herself what she wants to do.”

She wants to raise as much as she can for the Dalit Freedom Network, which aims to tackle slavery and human trafficking.

Anjali got her long locks chopped off at JSK Hair and Beauty in Milton of Campsie and loves her new look.

She even wants to grow her hair long so that she can donate it all over again.

The Little Princess Trust provide wigs, free of charge, to children who have lost their hair, mainly through cancer treatment but also because of conditions like alopecia.
