Abronhill Gala Day hailed a success

ABRONHILL Gala Day continues to be the highlight of the area’s social calendar what ever the weather.

The sun was a no-show but that didn’t prevent non-stop enjoyment being the order of the day - from the starting point at St Lucy’s Parish Church hall where locals were out in force.

There, they joined a giant procession which snaked its way to Abronhill High School - with Gala Queen Gillyan Cullen at the helm. Queen Gillyan was ably assisted by her princesses Rebekah Coulter and Rebecca Stevenson – and the trio did Abronhill proud!

The same was true of Abronhill Regeneration Forum who have spent months organising this very special event which showcased a wonderful selection of activities.

These were as varied as cheerleading, martial arts, crafts, live music -and naturally the obligatory bouncy castle made an appearance!

Co-ordinator Jenny Burgon who works at Abronhill Housing Association said: “This probably wasn’t the best gala day we have ever had simply because of the weather but it was still a great day and I have to say that everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.”

Jenny added: “I should also point out that we made a £500 profit from the event which will go towards our playparks fund.”
