Abronhill High future still in limbo

It has been three months since the decision to merge Abronhill and Cumbernauld High Schools was made, but the Scottish Government has yet to confirm whether it supports the plan.

North Lanarkshire Council’s decision to merge the schools was put on hold in March when the Scottish Government initiated a ministerial call-in to review it.

Education convener Jim Logue told this newspaper he found the situation “farcical”.

“After three months we are still in the exact same situation,” he said, adding that NLC had promptly supplied the Government with all the information it requested.

“A number of elected members from Cumbernauld have been asking me what the situation as have many members of the school community. But the fact is we’re at a loss as we have had no information back.”
