Adoption Week plea from NLC

North Lanarkshire Council is appealing for local people to consider becoming adoptive parents.

The appeal comes just as the UK held its National Adoption Week, which runs from November 4 to 10.

Councillor Sam Love, who has fostered children for many years, said: “Adoption is a lifelong commitment and children need a caring and stable family environment. Many have had a difficult start to their lives and the right people can give them the chance to have a happy and loving future.

‘‘We have children, young people and sibling groups looking for an adoptive home and we’re hoping National Adoption Week will encourage interested people to find out more. If you are over 21, have a stable lifestyle and a strong commitment to caring for a young person, you could become an adoptive parent.

“If you think you have what it takes to become an adoptive parent, please pick up the phone today and call 0800 073 1566.”

The council has a team of specialist staff who offer ongoing assistance to adoptive parents and carers, including advice, training and events to meet and discuss issues with other carers.
