Advice Bureau call scam

ANOTHER phone scam has emerged in the News and Chronicle area.

We recently reported on the “Microsoft” fraud, where crooks pretending to be from the software giants sought to gain access to people’s computers.

This time households are being phoned by someone claiming to be from the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Citizens’ Advice Bureau and asking people to disclose financial information. The caller offers to help clear debts.

Ian Eadie, manager of the local CAB, said: “We are not phoning people at random to ask for financial information. This is not something we would ever do and nor would any reputable organisation.”

He urged people to report such calls to Trading Standards on 0845-040506.

For debt advice call CAB on 01236-723201.
