Alice is nomninated for ‘Happy Hero’ award

The Smile Awards celebrate the unsung happy heroes that exist in our lives and communities. We launched our ‘happy heroes’ search last week and already the nominations are pouring in from all over the country.

One of the first to be nominated was Bishopbriggs woman Alice Abercrombie.

Alice makes sure that the children cross the road safely to get to Meadowburn Primary School, in Bishopbriggs. But she does so much more for those who meet her on their daily travels; she spreads good cheer and smiles to all – whether you have two legs or four.

Kim Macleod who nominated Alice said: “Alice knows the names of all the children who cross with her, she greets everyone with a smile and words of encouragement to start their day. She has a real warmth about her and is a wonderful positive person in our local community.”

But it is not only the children who love Alice – their four-legged friends do as well. Alice keeps all the dogs that walk in Meadowburn smiling with her daily supply of treats.

Kim explained: “All the dogs see Alice and start wagging their tails, my dog Bracken starts barking with excitement as he heads towards her.

“It must cost Alice a fortune in dog treats, especially as she caters for Bracken’s fussiness making sure she has the kind he likes.

“Alice is outside in all weathers - sun, wind, rain and snow, but continues with a smile on her face. She spreads her good cheer to the parents, grandparents and locals alike. We really missed her over the school holidays – especially Bracken.”

Alice was overwhelmed by the nomination for the Smile Award. She said: “ It is so lovely to be thanked for being happy and kind.

“It’s good to see all the children smile and share a bit about their day.

“I love all animals. Dogs can be scared by my uniform and the big lollipop, so giving them a wee treat brightens my day and theirs.”
