Almost £11,000 raised for family of murdered teenager Paige Doherty

Tributes have been continuing to pour in for murdered teenager Paige Doherty '“ and almost £11,000 has been raised overnight in her memory.

The body of the 15-year-old, was discovered in woodland next to Great Western Road at Clydebank on Monday, two days after she went missing.

Paige formerly lived in Bishopbriggs but reports that the teenager was a pupil at Turnbull High School are incorrect, according to East Dunbartonshire Council.

Director of Education and Children’s Services, Gordon Currie, said: “The Council’s thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Paige’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“We can confirm that Paige had not been enrolled as a pupil at any secondary school in East Dunbartonshire.”

It is believed Paige moved to Clydebank with her family around seven years ago.

One gofundme page which collected £6,200 overnight on Tuesday was set up by Gail Duncan, a friend of the founder of the Isobel Donnelly Dance School based in Balornock, Springburn, where Paige was a member.

Gail posted online: “This is a fund set up to raise money for Paige Doherty tragically taken from her family.

“Paige was a member of Isobel Donnelly dance school who is a friend of mine.

“My daughter dances freestyle disco and I have set up this fund to try and raise some money for her family to spend how they see fit in honour to remember Paige, on behalf of the freestyle world.

“This money will be donated along with money being raised at competitions.”

Another fund, set up by family friend Lynsay Smith, has raised £4550 so far.

The page states: “I am raising money for Paige who sadly was taken from her family at the age of 15. Us, the community, want to raise as much as possible, thanks.

“All the money raised is to help Pamela, her mum, and Andrew, her step-dad, with any funeral arrangements and anything else to ease the pain that they are going through at this time.”

Paige Doherty, from Clydebank in West Dunbartonshire, was reported missing on Saturday after failing to turn up for work at Street Image hairdressers in Kirkintilloch where she worked part-time.

Police confirmed on Tuesday they have launched a murder inquiry and are appealing for anyone who may have seen Paige after her last confirmed sighting, at 8.20am on Saturday, to come forward.

On Wednesday, officers issued a number which will give direct access to the investigation team.
