Alworths for Woolworths Lanark store?

ALMOST two years after its closure, hopes are high that Lanark's former Woolworths store will soon re-open under the banner of the growing Alworths chain.

The Surrey-based company, which has been re-opening redundant Woolworth branches throughout the country, could not confirm the news this week.

However, the Gazette understands that it is already fitting out the High Street premises for opening its latest branch in the near future.

It could mean a new identity for the premises on what would have been Lanark Woolworth's 50th anniversary in 2011.

The shop was one of the first casualties of the recession, closing in late 2008 along with hundrds of other Woolies throughout the UK.
