An a-May-zing group of knitting fundraisers

Over the past few years May Smith, from Bishopbriggs, and her friends have had their wool and needles at the ready to raise cash for the Marie Curie Hospice.

The team at the hospice recently welcomed the crafty fundraisers to thank them for a donation of £1,260.

May and her husband have been dedicated volunteers for the Marie Curie Hospice for many years and provide essential support to the facility, including taking care of reception in the evenings and volunteering on stalls at Marie Curie events, while May and her friends have had great success with their knitted goodies.

When May found out about the opportunity to host a stall at December’s Marie Curie Ladies’ Lunch, she and her team got knitting.

Their stall of festive goods, from mini stockings to Christmas puddings, raised £1,060.

May and her friends also volunteered at the Marie Curie Hospice ‘Glasgow Lights to Remember’ service by hosting the Christmas card table and selling more of their festive knitting.

Dionne Robertson, hospice fundraising assistant for the Marie Curie Hospice, said: “We are honoured and grateful to May and her friends for the support that they have given us.

“These knitted goodies are always so popular and they fly out the door whenever May brings them up to the hospice.

“The stall at the Ladies’ Lunch in November was fantastically successful and we are proud to have the support of these amazing and dedicated ladies.”

May, Edith and Eleanor said “We are delighted that we are able to support Marie Curie and are over the moon at raising £1,260 over the festive period.”

The next stop for May and her crafty ladies will be Easter gifts of knitted chicks containing a creme egg and Easter bunnies which will be available from the Marie Curie Hospice reception.
