An impression of new health centre

Last week, The Extra reported that work will commence on the Drumby Crescent site following a formal announcement by the Scottish government.

Now, we can reveal an artists’ impression of the purpose-built Clarkston facility, that will include four GP practices, a social work office and community services including clinics, podiatry, physiotherapy, children’s services, mental health services, district nursing and speech 
therapy.

The project is funded by the Scottish government and developed by hub West Scotland — in partnership with Scottish Futures Trust, East Renfrewshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde — with a total of £21.7 million split between Eastwood and a new centre in Maryhill.

East Ren council will provide £5.5m towards the cost.

Health secretary Alex Neil announced the news while visiting the brand new Shields Centre in East Pollokshields yesterday (Wednesday).

He commented: “These new centres will serve Eastwood and Maryhill well for decades to come.

“These new buildings are not just good news for the patients and staff of the NHS. Investment on this scale has a tremendously positive effect on the local economy — creating jobs and apprenticeships and helping local 
businesses.”

Work is due to start on the site — the former Isobel Mair School grounds — on Monday, October 27, and the health centre is due to open in spring 2016.

The council confirmed last week that residents living near Drumby Crescent have been informed, and that the park and ride car park next to the site will remain open throughout the build.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, chair of the CHCP committee, added: “I am delighted that work can now begin on building this much-needed 
facility.”
