Anger at garbage left by fly-tippers

Lumloch Road – between Auchinloch and Robroyston – straddles three different council areas – East Dunbartonshire, Glasgow and North Lanarkshire.

One angry resident said people dumping rubbish at the side of the road had been happening on and off for years and claimed no-one wanted to take responsibility. She is calling on all local authorities to “step up to fix the problem”.

Lesley Singh posted on public Facebook group Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Lenzie: “The whole back road is a mess. The problem is people using this road into Auchinloch. I’ve watched people throw bags from their cars. Burned out vehicles. Been like that for years.

“Councils all deny who’s responsible for the area. You will probably find someone has been paid to dump stuff and has dumped it there.

“Let’s hope all councils responsible step up to fix things, but I honestly doubt they will.”

Wendy Armstrong agreed and posted: It angers me to dodge birds of prey and deer one minute, then tyres, plastic piping, and glass the next.”

Ann Davie, director of customer services and transformation at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “This has been a long-running issue in that area - which falls within the boundaries of East Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire and Glasgow City councils.

“A site visit was carried out on Wednesday, February 17, with both neighbouring councils, where it was established the majority of the area in question is in Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, with the main fly-tipping problem occurring within North Lanarkshire Council’s boundary.

“We are working with colleagues in neighbouring
authorities to address this issue.

“In the meantime, North Lanarkshire Council will clear up verges at the road side.”

She added offenders faced fixed penalties of £200.
