Anna’s making the grade in film study

One lucky girl is on her way to being the female equivalent of Barry Norman or Jonanthan Ross when it comes to understanding cinema.

Young Anna Gallagher (13) has been accepted to become a student with the Into Film Talent Development Programme.

The programme is part of Into Film, a nationwide education charity supported by the British Film Institute (BFI).

The year-long course will see the St Ninian’s pupil trained in writing effective film reviews, researching and preparing good questions for interviews and presenting to camera.

She will be able to put her skills to the test; interviewing film industry professionals, reporting from the red carpet, hosting webcasts and attending preview screenings of new films and documentaries which Anna can then review for the charity’s website.

Anna said: “It’s a brilliant opportunity, you get to learn so much and it’s an experience I don’t want to miss!

“I really hope to meet some film stars and learn about what goes on behind the scenes.

“It will be interesting to see just how much work goes into making a film.”

In the past, students have interviewed names such as Idris Elba, Steven Spielberg, Daniel Radcliffe, Kate Winslet, Harrison Ford, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes and Reese Witherspoon.

Actress Julie Walters said: “What an amazing opportunity Into Film is giving these young people.

“Learning new skills, putting those into practice and interacting close-up with professionals will raise their aspirations and help the to believe in themselves.”
