Annie Miller celebrates 109th birthday

A WOMAN believed to be the oldest lady in Scotland celebrated her 109th birthday on January 7 at Bankhouse Care Home in Lesmahagow.

Annie Miller was born in Larkhall way back in 1902, an incredible 44 years before the National Health Service was even established and a whopping 51 years before the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II!

Her only daughter Annette, who lives in Northumberland, said: "I take great pride in the fact my mum has lived so long."

And Annette is in no doubt what has kept her mum going for so long.

"My mum's faith has helped her considerably," Annette said. "She would have gone under without it."

Annie received many presents including bouquets of flowers, a new outfit and chocolates to mark her birthday, as well as two separate telegrams – one from the Queen and one from the chairman of Methodist Homes For The Aged.
