Another greatyear at villagemusic festival

Newarthill poet Liz Lochhead joined youngsters from Muiredge, Bothwell and St John the Baptist Primaries at Uddingston Library as they performed some of their favourite Scottish poems for Musicfest.

Liz, who recently stepped down as Scotland’s makar, also showed them the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry which she received from Her Majesty earlier this month to honour her body of work spanning 40 years, before heading to Muiredge Primary for lunch.

Other highlights of this year’s Musicfest included appearances from Martin Stepek, The B Flat Miners, Strumulele and The Ian Walker Band, and there was also plenty of opportunity for local people to show off their talent at the likes of Nigel Gatherer’s mixed instrument workshops and busking encouraged throughout the village.

Organiser Lorna Cammock said: “It was another great year for Musicfest, it is always such a joy to be able to bring the village together is this way.”
