Another round looms for Waterfoot fight

The community group has long protested Gladman’s plans for a 46 acre residential development on land designated in East Renfrewshire Council’s Local Development Plan as greenbelt.

Now, Waterfoot Action is taking the fight to the street.

Protester John McCourt told The Extra: “We only have three weeks to submit our objections, so Waterfoot Action are going to be door knocking next week to get people to sign a petition.

“It’s clear from surveys conducted by MP Jim Murphy and MSP Jackson Carlaw that Waterfoot residents are entirely opposed to these plans.

“This is a major development on greenbelt land that will radically alter our village, destroy its character and put huge pressure on infrastructure.”

West of Scotland MSP Jackson Carlaw commented: “While we must remain vigilant, I believe the overwhelming view of Waterfoot residents against this proposal will prevail.”

Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh also backs the campaign, and said: “The only good news about this application is that we now have a specific proposal to object to. I will be writing to East Renfrewshire Council.”

While Gladman declined to comment, an ERC spokesman said: “At the moment, the planning application submitted has not been registered as a valid application.

“Once it becomes a valid application, it will be uploaded onto the council’s online system. Neighbours will be notified in the normal way and an advert will appear in The Extra.”
